Case Study: Team Working at a specialist business insurer
In 2010, we designed and facilitated a one-day team development workshop for a newly formed team in this leading global insurer.
The objectives were
- To establish the foundations for a great team, capable of operating independently of its leader
- To raise awareness of team strengths and gaps and improve team working
- To develop a team culture of innovation
Using Oak Tree Coaching’s team assessment methodology, we measured how effectively the group was currently working together. We paid particular attention to the support and collaboration structures within the team. We complimented Oak Tree Coaching’s diagnostic tools with the well known Myers Briggs personality inventory to support us in identifying individual and team strengths and how these could be used to drive success.
Responding to particular needs identified by the pre-workshop interviews, we also incorporated a session dedicated to creating tangible actions to ensure the work and promises made on the day would remain alive.
Participant feedback was extremely positive, including:
"...it made all the difference getting the professionals in to design and facilitate the day...there were no elephants left in the room”
"Exceeded my expectations, thank you”
“Great day, great first meeting”
“You made some astute observations about how the individuals and the team are working”
The leader of the team has been delighted with the impact of the team day, reporting that people have been more positive and engaged in making the team work better, and have greater awareness of the commercial big picture.
Case Study: People Development and Team Working at a large pharmaceutical company
In 2008, we designed and facilitated a one-day conference for a 90-person department of this global pharmaceutical company.
The objectives were
- To raise people development on everyone’s agenda
- To raise awareness of team strengths and gaps and improve team working
- To instil a more innovative team culture
We introduced the TMSDI model which provided individual and team development, and facilitated a number of lively, interactive sessions to solve real life problems and reinforce the learning from the morning. Responding to particular needs identified by the TMSDI process, we also incorporated a session focused specifically on developing innovative work practices.
Participant feedback was extremely positive, including:
"...got us thinking differently [about] how to get the best out of each other..”
"Challenging, good fun, thank you”
The department’s leaders have been delighted with the impact of the conference, reporting that people have been more positive and engaged in making the department work better, and have greater awareness of the commercial big picture.
